Privacy Policy
Last Updated: May 26, 2026
BSides Cleveland (“BSidesCLE,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a community-organized, nonprofit information security conference serving Northeast Ohio and the surrounding region. This Privacy Policy describes how we handle information in connection with our website at bsidescle.com and our annual conference events.
1. Tracking, Cookies, and Analytics
BSides Cleveland does not use cookies, session tokens, browser fingerprinting, tracking pixels, or any similar technology to monitor, record, or analyze visitor activity on this website. We do not operate any analytics platform (such as Google Analytics) and do not embed third-party tracking scripts. No tracking data is collected by or on behalf of BSides Cleveland through your use of this site.
2. Web Server Logs
Our website is hosted by a third-party web hosting provider. Like all web servers, our host’s infrastructure automatically records standard access logs, which may include your IP address, browser type, referring URL, and the date and time of each request. These logs are a routine function of the hosting infrastructure and are outside BSides Cleveland’s direct control. We do not review, analyze, or retain these logs for any purpose, and they are not shared with any third party by us.
3. Sponsorship Inquiries
If you submit a sponsorship agreement form on this website, the information you provide — which may include your name, job title, company name, email address, and phone number — is transmitted by email to our sponsorship team at sponsors@bsidescle.com and may be retained in BSides Cleveland’s organizational records (such as a spreadsheet or contact management tool) for the purposes of processing and fulfilling the sponsorship relationship. This information is used solely to communicate with you about your sponsorship and is not sold, licensed, or transferred to any outside party.
4. Event Registration, Ticket Purchases, and Donations
Ticket sales, event registration, and charitable donations for BSidesCLE are processed through Zeffy (zeffy.com), a third-party ticketing and fundraising platform. Any personal information you provide through Zeffy — such as your name and email address — is collected and stored by Zeffy in accordance with Zeffy’s own Privacy Policy. Zeffy provides its own privacy compliance tools for managing data submitted to their platform. BSides Cleveland may receive a copy of attendee and donor contact information (name and email address) from Zeffy as part of event administration.
5. Call for Presentations (CFP) Submissions
Speaker and presentation submissions for BSidesCLE conferences are managed through Sessionize (sessionize.com), a third-party conference management platform. Any personal information you submit as part of a CFP application — including your name, biography, contact information, and session materials — is collected and stored by Sessionize in accordance with Sessionize’s own Privacy Policy. Sessionize provides its own privacy compliance tools for managing data submitted to their platform. BSides Cleveland reviews submitted session information for the purposes of speaker selection and schedule planning only.
6. Sharing Attendee Information With Event Sponsors
When purchasing a ticket through Zeffy, you may be given the opportunity to opt in to having your contact information shared with that event’s sponsors. Only attendees who explicitly opt in during registration are included. If you opt in, BSides Cleveland may provide your name and email address to that year’s sponsors upon their request. We do not share attendee information with sponsors without your prior opt-in consent, and we do not sell attendee data under any circumstances.
7. Event Announcement Mailing List
BSides Cleveland may maintain a mailing list composed of prior event attendees for the sole purpose of announcing upcoming BSidesCLE events. This list is used exclusively by BSides Cleveland — it is never shared with sponsors, partners, or any third party. We do not send marketing emails, newsletters, or commercial promotions through this list; communications are limited to announcements about new or upcoming BSidesCLE conferences.
You may opt out of these announcements at any time by emailing bsidescleveland@gmail.com with a request to be removed. We will process opt-out requests promptly.
8. No Sale or Transfer of Personal Data
BSides Cleveland does not sell, rent, license, or otherwise transfer your personal information to any third party for commercial purposes, except as described in Section 6 above (opt-in sponsor sharing) or as may be required by law.
9. Your Privacy Rights
Regardless of your location, you may contact us at any time to:
- Request access to personal information we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate information.
- Request deletion of your personal information from our records.
- Opt out of having your attendee contact information shared with event sponsors (if you previously opted in).
- Opt out of the BSidesCLE event announcement mailing list.
To exercise any of these rights, please email us at bsidescleveland@gmail.com. We will respond to verifiable requests within a reasonable time, generally within 30 days.
10. State Privacy Law Notice
BSides Cleveland is a small, community-run nonprofit. Our data processing activities are minimal and do not reach the thresholds that trigger compliance obligations under most U.S. state comprehensive privacy laws (including the California Consumer Privacy Act, Colorado Privacy Act, Connecticut Data Privacy Act, Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act, and similar statutes), which generally apply to for-profit entities processing the personal data of large numbers of consumers. Nonetheless, we are committed to responsible data stewardship and honor the rights described in Section 8 for all individuals regardless of their state of residence.
If you are a California resident, please note that BSides Cleveland does not sell personal information as defined under the CCPA/CPRA, does not use personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and does not share personal information with third parties for direct marketing purposes.
11. Children’s Privacy
This website is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal information to us, please contact us and we will take steps to remove it.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. The “Last Updated” date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was most recently revised. Continued use of this website after any update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
